NOVEM BE R IN STAL MEN T Im last issue appeared an intimation from the Commissioner of Taxes that an instalment of the combined Social Security and National Security Charge on income other than salaries or wages derived during the year ended 31st March 1943 falls due on Ist November. The instalment is payable on all such income derived by male and female persons (including natives) sixteen years of age or over, and by trustees (avlicther or not. the beneficiaries are entitled to receive the income during the: income year). A penalty of 10 per cent is payable on any amount not paid Avithin one month following the due date. Income other than salary or Avages derived by a person in receipt of a Avar pension in respect of his total disablement through serA r ice in the 1914-19 AA~ar is exempt from the charge. Monetary benefits from the Social Security Fund are. also exempt. On Ist November an instalment of the Registration Fee (5/-) also becomes payable by all male persons, including natives,, twenty years of age or oA r er and all such persons must pay the Fee or establish the right to exemption. Persons entitled to exemption including those in receipt of an Age Benefit from the Social Security Fund and avlio are not in receipt of any other income arc reminded that they may be held liable for payment of the instalment unless a claim for exemption is completed and presented Avith the cou-pon-book at a money-order office within 7 days after the last day for payment of that instalment. Failure to pay renders defaulters liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of £o. I/n addition, a penalty of sixpence per month Avitli a maximum penalty of 2/G for each instalment automatically accrues if payment is not made AA'ithin one month folloAving the due date. Persons avlio attain the age of sixteen years are reminded of their obligations to register under the Social Security Act. Avithin one month of their sixteenth birthday and to obtain possession of a coupon-book. Neglect to do so Avithin the time alloAved is an offence, and is punishable on conviction by a fine! of £50.
