RUSHED TO HOSPITAL
GUN ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED MARRIED WOMAN'S ORDKAL A most unfortunate accident occurred at Manawahe when the accidental discharge of a repeater rifle resulted in a young married woman, Mrs Rose Caulfield, being severely wo un died: andi rushed to the Whakatane Hospital, where a timely operation was performed. Tho accident occurred on the Manawahe property of Mr J. J*. CruUiekl of Otakiri when a parly composed of members of the family" had halted to boil the billy lor lunch. The gun Avas in the posscsssion of Mr It. M. Caulfiekl Avho v. as endeaA-ouring to eject the last cartridge from the magazine, after returning from shooting rabbits. It is understood that when spoken tv> by his si.stcr-in-IaAV„ Mrs J. A. Caulfield, he swung round to answer, and. the gun Avcnt off simultaneously, the bullet striking Mrs Caulfield who was. bending OA-er the fire, in the thigh. No time Avas lost in bringing the injured woman to hospital Avhere she is now reported to b-j making , satisfactory progress.
