THE GOLDEN VITAMIN
FOR the first time in their history New Zealanders have been introduced to the rationing of their greatest product, the rich golden butter for which the Dominion now enjoys a world-wide reputation. As pointed out however we are possibly the last of the belligerent countries to impose the ration, and we can expect with half-a-pound per head per week, not to be unduly discomforted thereby. We are now on a par with people in Canada and Australia and still four times better off than the long-suffering people of Great Britain for whose benefit we understand the new regulation is mainly directed. This being the case we realise that we have less reason than ever to complain, and it can safely be said that the average New Zealander will cheerfully abide by the rationing and in a comparatively short time learn to delegate the new shortage to the list of other war restrictions which to-day are regulating his life. In the majority of cases however, we feel that we can honestly say that there will, be no genuine hardship resulting from, the latest imposition, which will probably have a good counter effect in the prevention of waste.
