WOMEN'S INSTITUTE GATHERING BAY OF PLENTY FEDERATION The Drama Festival oi' the. Eastern Bay ol" Plenty Federation of Women's Institutes was held at Bell's Hall, Edgceumbe, on Monday, October lltli both day and night sessions being very well attended.. A basket of llowcrs was given to the adjudicator and shoulder sprays to the producers of the various plays, and to the convenor, Mr V. Stewart, before the programme commenced. .Six teams presented plays Edgccumbc, Matata, Otakiri. Taneatua. Waimana and Whakatane. All of the productions were of a very high standard, and the performances showed a great improvement on the previous, festival. Mrs Bristow of Edgccumbc. acted as adjudicator, and .gave very helpful criticisms to the performers, also a general talk on drama, productions, make-up, etc. The following were the placings: Edgccumbc. "No. 10" producer. Mrs Snelling, 1; Waimana "The Great Crime" producer, Mrs Mitchell.. 2: Otakiri "Snowed Up With a Duchess" producer, Mrs Cristall, 3. Whakatane was runner-up with the play "Novelette." Following the announcement, of the placings, Mrs Stewart, convenor of the festival thanked Mrs Bristow on behalf of the Federation. The competitive Silver Bowl was presented to the Kdgecumbe Institute, and the prize for .the. best 'individual characterisation to Mrs H. Wardlaw, of Waimana Institute. Mrs Bristow was the recipient ol a bouquet from the Federation and Otakiri Institute. Mrs Cairns of Whakatane. was the winner of the Feltex shopping bag.
