NINETY-TWO HOSPITAL PATIENTS

INTO a fifty-bed hospital (annexe: excluded) were one day last week crammed no less than ninety-two patients. This figure is a record, though within the past few days it has reached over ninety. Of the first figure fifteen were in the maternity annexe and one was in isolation. Taking this into account it will be seen that the actual position was that 76 patients were accommodated in an institution designed to take only 50. The average occupied bed for the whole of the past month totalled 77.3 daily. These figures apply to the Whakatane Public Hospital and should furnish strongfood for thought.
