SURVEY OF LAND
TAURANGA PRIMARY PRODUCTION COUNCIL'S TASK possmrLrnks of development The Tauranga District Council oi "Primary Production some time ago put forward a scheme for a survey •of land throughout the Dominion. The National Council for various reasons did not support the project. The diverse conditions prevailing in different parts of the country, ■which made uniformity of action difficult-, was the main factor which led to this decision. However, the Tauranga Production Council has set itself the task of listing all partially developed and wholly undeveloped land in the Tauranga County. The County Council is co-operating •with a sub-committee appointed by the Primary Production Council in the survey, Avhich has received the general approval of district committees. «
All areas over 100 acres are to be ■scrutinised as to their suitability for sub-division or development, for tlie purpose of dairying, cropping, cattle raising, sheep farming or afforestation. District committees will be brought into consultation in the classification of the land. It is considered that the information thus •compiled, will be valuable in facing inot only rehabilitation .problems, but also in view of the prospect of •extensive immigration plans which 'illay be undertaken Jn the near future. The climate, of the Hay of Plenty "5s unsurpassed in the Dominion and there is enormous scope for land de- * Telopment in the Tauranga County.
