COUNTY REPRESENTATIVE S RESIGNATION
MR J. G. CLIEE-McCULLOCH'S
LETTER
"I feel that owing to the un- - certain dale of my return to New Zealand and the long ab- ■ sence from the country, which ■ circumstances liaye forced upon me, it would be unfair to the ratepayers of the Omataroa Riding if I were to retain their representation upon the County Council any' longer and such being the case I must beg of you to accept my resignation." So wrote Mr J. G. Cliff-McCulloch to the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council.
Mr Gliil'-McCulloeli who is at the present time with the Royal Navy •with the rank of Lieut-Commamlcr is ex-county chairman and his. interests have' largely been attended to by Cr McCraeken in his absence.
Continuing his letter lie states: "Needless to'say it is 'with feelings of great regret that L take such action, hut owing to the uncertainty! •of the future, I feel it is ri&ht anil proper., and should the ratepayeis ■whom I have had the honour to represent for so long., see lit to accept my .services, once more when happiet times permit my return to New Zea-i ■land, I shall be glad to offer them. I should like particularly to convey to Cr MeCracken my gratitude. for liis having deputised on my behali, an the interests of the ratepayers concerned, during the last lour year.; r and shall appreciate if you will give him my personal and sincere thanks. 'Jo the ratepayers of Omataroa Riding I would ask you to express my • deep appreciation for the confidence they have shown in me during the many years in which I have ren■. ethem on the Council, lo you. Sir, to niv brother councillors and to my friends on the staff, I send my most cordial greetings and best -wishes for your personal welfare and lor that of the Whakatane County -whose affairs you so ably administer." The chairman said that he regretted that. Mr Cliff-McCulloch had seen lit to tender bis resignation but he fully understood his feelings in the matter. Cr MeCracken thought the Council bound to accept the resignation as no one especially the riding member himself thought he would be ■way too long at first. Cr Smith contended that it was entirely a matter for the ratepayers to decide and her therefore suggested holding the letter over until some indication of their views could be gained by next meeting.
