MEETING AT WHAKATANE
The September meeling of the Whakatnne "Women's Institute Avas held in the Methodist Hall. Mrs Stewart presiding OA'er a large attendance. The hall Avas particularly attractive Avith a display of spring blooms, the occasion being the annual Flower Show. The exhibits drew much well-merited admiration. At the commencement of the meeting members stood in silence as a mark of .sympathy to Mrs Guest. Remits - were read wliicl* were passed at the conference, held this year in Gisborne. Delegates Avere chosen to attend the bi-annual council meeting at Taneatua. It w;ui resolved to invite Sifter ! nsti t .Ires'''to at Lend the birthday heie in October. Volunteers were called for the making of .soldiers Christmas cakes, find a request was made for dis-use;! <;ofl toys to be handed in to Mrs Moran for inclusion, in Galway Guild boxes. The home nursing talk was given by Mrs Hannah, avlio dealt with the administration of medicines. FiAC new members Avere proposed ;,nd seconded. A collection was tak- 1 en up, the proceeds being devoted to the Leper' Fund. Mrs A. Martin then gaA*e ; a most instructive talk on pot plants am! repotting, and answered ail inquire ies. A hearty A'ote of thanks Avas passed for the clear and thorough way in which the .speaker dealt Avith her subject. Mrs Martin then proceeded to judge the (lowers explaining the good and bad. points of various exhibits and the reasons ioi' some seemingly good exhibits not being awarded first place. r J he results were as follows: — Narcissus: Mrs Hannah 1: Mr?
