WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT OTAKIRI

The Otakiri Women's; Institute held its monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon, September 2. Five letters of thanks were read from soldiers in receipt of Patriotic parcels packed by ladies of the Institutel. After the routine business Mrs Armstrong, the president, welcomed Mrs Withy and Mrs Hawkins, who were visitors to the meeting, and called upon Mrs Hawkins, who gave a very interesting and enjoyable talk on "England in Springtime." Mrs Withy then gave an instructive demonstration of wool spinning. The Roll Call brought forth many spring cleaning hints, and after afternoon tea served, by Mesdames W. Murray and Hutton, the entrants for the competition "Spring frock, costing not more than 7/11 a yard, to be made and worn by member," paraded, the winners being Mrs Armstrong 1, Mrs Peck and Mrs Hancock 2. The other competition winners were: Vase of spring flowers for effect, Mrs Armstrong 1; Mrs W.. Mayo 2; Mrs Hancock 3. Best flower, Mrs I W. Murray 1; Mrs Hancock 2; Mrs Smith 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Armstrong 1; Mrs F. Mayo 2; M.rs Peck 3.
