THAT ROAD-BLOCK
COMMERCE STREET EYE-SORE OUTSPOKEN COUNCILLORS Military Headquarters (Paeroa) in answer to the Borough Council's suggestion that the Commerce Street road-block might now be. removed in common with the removal of many such obstacles 'in other parts of the Dominion lias politely informed our city fathers that the matter is under consideration and that they would be advised by a later letter. The communication went on to say that if the centre- post was regarded as a danger it could be removed providing the logs, were kept close handy for rapid replacement should circumstances warrant. Cr Armstrong: I. think Ave. should go right ahead with removing it. They are dismantling the wiring from Takapuna Beach, Auckland. The Mayor: In mv opinion it ought to be removed. l\t is the concensus of opinion amongst men returned from the Middle Last that it is no cJtrthly use as a tank stop. The enemy "would only have to come up the river a little further if they wanted, to avoid it. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to write Headquarters again urging that the blo.'jk be removed as it constituted, a giowing danger to traffic and also that the Council regarded its removal as the responsibility ol the military authorities, not of the local body. Cr Mulholland remarked that the i HiUerest block should also be removed at the same time.
