Mi* W. W. Jonasen, Labour candidate for Bay of Plenty, is now a guest at the Wluikatane Hotel and will remain there till the election. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry, returned, to AVhakatane on Thursday night. During his visit to the East Coast the Minister addressed largely attended political meetings at Opotiki and Tancatua. Mr Parry left for Auckland on Friday morning. A cabled announcement has * been received to the effect that Warrant Officer H. L. Heatley, formerly of the BEACON literary staff, has been appointed 1 Editor of the N.Z.E.F. News, the popular Middle East paper which has als*o found many interested readers in this country. Warrant Officer Heatley succeeds Mr E. J. Webber who has now been promoted 1 to Public Relations Officer, with the rank of Captain. Warrant Officer Heatley came to the BEACON from the Waikato and' made many friendis in town and district before enlisting for overseas service and sailing with the Fifth Reinforcements. He was; posted to the Public Relations Unit in the early part of 1942 andi carried the position of advertising manager for a period l before being appointed sub-editor to Capt. Webber. The Beacon management join warmly with his friends in congratulating him and wishing him continued success.
