SUCCESSFUL DANCE

GATHERING AT WAIMANA

COMFORTS FUND AUGMENTED

The dance held in the Waimana Hall bust Thursday evening was a great success, and the hall was well filled. The. takings were over £44 and are to be. used for the local men's comforts, who are overseas. The music for dancing was contributed by Mrs M. King., Miss Wardlaw, Messrs' R. and A. Bell, D. Boynton and. players from Tancatua.

Mr L. Dueker most capably acted as M.C. and Mr R. Morton was doorkeeper. A bring and buy stall: was held and Mrs Gallagher, Mrs Clar'k and Mrs T. Wardlaw did brisik business. The sellers of tickets for competitions did good business. The novelty dances proved most popular and thoroughly enjoyed, by all.

The following donations were received: Mr. C. Wyldc payed for the hire of the hall, Mrs F. J. Savage gave a dinner for competition,, won by Mrs McConnell, iced fruit cake given by Mrs Gallagher, won by Mrs A. Ruff, Pedigree heifer calf given by Mr T. \Y. Ward law,, won by Mrs C. Bell, Mr H. Ward law donated £5 and Mr T. B. AVardlaw £1 for competition, also £1 donation from Mr.s Hodgson and 10s from Mr MeConncll for competition and. 10s donation from Mr Stevenson.

After supper had been served, Mr J. L. Burnett in his usual capable manner thanked all for coming along and helping to make the function the great success it was. The speaker stated that, we were on. the eve of four years of Avar, and hoped hostilities avouUl soon be over and functions to raise funds for Avar purposes cease: but \ye still had a long way to go and could not leap on the rai-sing of funds etc. to help win the war. Mr Burnett stated that the Patriotic quota for Waimana had been fully subscribed, and since the quotas commenced Waimana and Nukuhou. have subscribed approximately £1300. Dancing continued, until a late hour, when the National Antjiem closed the function.
