FARM TRAGEDY
RETURNED SOLDIER'S DEATH
THROWN FROM HORSE
While riding a horse on the property of Mr E. F. Ward, Otakiri, last Sunday a returned soldier from the present war, Eric Edward Neil Quinn, was thrown and sustained fatal inquiries from the horse's hoof, from which he died shortly afterwards in the Whakatane Hospital.
J lie late Mr Qui nil who was engaged on herd testing work asked permission to use the horse and hav j ing been given it proceeded to saddle up and ride it. I'n his subsequent actions the saddle slipped and he fell to tile ground to be struck in the head by the animal's hoof. He was removed with all haste to the local hospital where he. died n few hours later. His: age was years and his. people live in Gis-* borne. An inquest was opened before Mi F.A. Brabant, district coroner last Tuesday., for identification purposes only and was adjourned.
