PRICES AT WHAKATANE
Messrs Dalgey and Co. Ltd.. report having held a cattle fair ia Whakatane on Friday 3rd instant when they .submitted a yarding of approximately 1000 head of cattle; comprising chieJlv lines of we 11-I)red station steers and also a medium: yarding of fats. Theref was good competition, throughout for al'l classes of fat cattle, but. owing to the general scarcity of cattle feed, the bidding, on the store cattle was on a eon-* servative basis as compared witlx other fairs, with the. result, that a number of pens were passed, including one of 108. well-grown ris- . ing 2 year P.A. steers for which. £7 15s was. offered. i.' J Buyers were present from tlia Rotorua, Te Puke, Waikato antl Auckland districts, but in the absence of the usual flush of spring, feed, they "were prepared to. bujr on.'y on a somewhat restricted limit. Following is a range of prices:—- • Heavy fat bullocks £11 14s, £14 ss; lighter sorts £11 10s, £11 ss: unfinished bullocks £10 10.s: heavy fat cows £10 17s, £9; medium fat cow? £8 7s (id, £7 10s; fat Jersey cows £7, £(J Us; light fat Jersey cows £0 10sV £5 Ms; rising 3 year P.A. steers* • £9 ,Is, £9; small rising 3 year P.A. steers £S 10s.; rising 2 year P.A. steers £8 2s, £/ 15s; small 2 P.A. steers £7 10s; yearling P.A.. steers £6. £5 10s; small yearling!
