RANGITAIKI ASSOCIATION

EIGHTH ANNUAL MEETING

The eighth annual general mecU ing of the. Rangitaiki Cricket Association was held in Whakatane on Wednesday, Ist September, before a lull muster of asociation delegates and a busy evening's business was dispensed with.

Mr R. R. Cleland occupied the cliair in tlie absence of his father, Mr It. H. Cleland. who wished to retire from the presidency after many years of faithful, service to the association and to cricket as a whole in the district, it. was dc.sired. to place on record ail appreciation of Mr Clelaiul's past record and the association hoped that lie would continue to foster cricket In the Bay. - The following officers were cd for the ensuing season:— Patron: Mr R. H. Cleland. President: Mr L. R. Spring. Vi'ce-Presidenst: Mr N. McG. Brem-. ner, R. Hodges, W. Alexander, W* MeCready, W. Sullivan, K. Day, ]'£..■ Grant, J. D. Rivett. Hon Auditor: Mr H. G. Warren. Hon Secretary and Treasurer: Mr G. O. Smart. . Applications for affiliation were received from the Wha'katanc United Cricket Club and, tlie Air Training Corps Cricket Club,, both of! which were accepted. There was very general discussion! on the subject of admitting WaK mana and Opoti'ki Clubs to-the: Rangitaiki Association and it was fin-r ally-decided, to meet, delegates of the clubs concerned at Taneatua on Wednesday, September 8 to go intothe matter of travelling etc. and availability of teams. Opening day was fixed for the second. Sunday in October and it is hoped that something concrete in the way of a competition will be available by that date. A vote of thanks, to the retiring., president and secretary was carried unanimously and the. meeting closed.
