BOBBY CALF FIGURES

FOLLOWING up the contention that the bobby calf figures are the best dairy guage in any established dairying district, we have once again collected the figures from the Rangitaiki for the month of August. The total was 8178, against 8304 for the same month last year the decline being 126. As however the figures for the season were: 58 in advance of last year at the beginning of the present month the actual difference is 68. To date the new season has yielded 10,861 calves against 10,929 for the same period last year. A noteworthy feature however is that pigs are coming forward in much larger numbers than last year, which is a healthy sign indicating prospects that the pork and bacon products from this area will be well in advance of last year's.
