OHOPE REPRESENTATION

THE petition from the Ohope. Ratepayers Association seeking the formation of an independent riding* of the beach settlement and a severance from Taneatua representation, is the culmination of considerable agitation over a long period. Ohope, a centre which exceeded all expectations in the manner of its expansion and consolidation has long sought a fairer basis of rating and of developmental expenditure, a possibility which its residents complain cannot be achieved whilst linked to an inland township with which it has not even the remotest community! of interest. In view of the unprecedented growth of Ohope, its potentialities and the importance which it is assuming as a seaside resort, it will be generally conceded that the petition as presented to the council has everything to commend it.
