AIR FORCE AWARDS
LOCAL MEN WIN D.F.C. CITATIONS TO lIAXD The awarding of the Distinguished Flying Cross' to Acting Flight Lieut Ronald Walter Stewart and to Pilot Officer Michael (Mick) Acton Sullivan which swept the district with a thrill of pride last week has now been furthered another stage with the arrival of the official citations in both cases:— These arc:— "Acting Flight Lieutenant Stewart lias completed a/.large number of operational sorties including Hamburg, Berlin, and the Ruhr Valley, also Stuttgart, Munich and Kassell. He took part in a daylight, raid on Le Creusot. He has made six flights to Italy. lie is an outstanding wireless operator, and. pays keen attention to the serviceability of equipment, shown by his never having had a failure during a flight. On at least two occasions, Acting Flight Lieutenant Stewart's efficiency has been the means of bringing the aircraft back safely. He has, displayed resourcefulness and fearlessness throughout his operational career." "Pilot Officer Sullivan lias completed a large number oF sorties over Germany and occupied territory, and has invariably displayed the greater skill and courage and determination while attacking targets, which included Dusscldorf, Wuppcrtal, Essen, Kiel and Duisburg, where most intense opposition was encountered. Pilot Officer Sullivan possesses outstanding knowledge and skill which have been of great benefit to the Squadron." i
