WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT EDGECUMBE The monthly meeting of the Edgc--cumbc Women's Institute was held •on Tuesday, Mrs Hodson presiding -over a good, attendance of members. The-meeting opened with the Odo to Friendship and Mrs Hodson read the Aspirations. Two new members- were enrolTcd. Arrangements were made for the production of a play at the forthcoming Drama Festival to be held --at Edgccuinbei in October. Mrs Hodson gave a most interesting and informative, report of the . Dominion Conference recently held in Gisborne and to which she Avas a delegate. The roll call "My Birthplace, and Date" revealed, that representatives of many far away places were present. A musical parcel Avas won by Mis Fowell. It being Scottish afternoon, Highland dances were gracefully performed by three of Mrs Patience's pupils Barbara List and Margaret .Bla.dk dancing the Highland Fling -and Berniee Starnes contributed a skillf'ally executed Sword dance. These, items \vere much appreciated. A dainty afternoon tea was; served by the hostesses for the day Mrs Wilson, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Irving. Competitions were won as follows: Best iloAver, Mrs Crang 1; Mrs Snelling 2; Mrs List 3. Best Polyanthus, .Mrs Crang 1; Mrs Fiavel; 2; Mrs Snelling gloves for forces, Mrs List 1; Mrs Hodson 2; Mrs Sne'lling -3. Short bread, Mrs Wilson 1; Mrs .Spiers 2; Mrs Learning 3. The singing of the National An--them brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.'
