DISTRICT AWARD
DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS TWO LOCAL MEN HONOURED Word has been received by Mr and Mrs W. Sullivan of McAlister Street, that their son Pilot Officer M. A. (Mick) Sullivan has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The news was received with the utmost enthusiasta at the annual meeting- of the Whakatane Scout troop last evening when lusty cheers were given for the local airman, who is an ex-scout. Pilot Officer Sullivan is a well known and popular local boy the news of whose decoration will be received with the greatest pride and satisfaction by his numerous friends. The second award goes to Pilot Officer Ron Stewart who is another well known local man. Details of either awards are not to hiand asi yet apart from the cryptic 'gallantry * in action' which precedes' the"' officitl citation. Our warmest congratulations are extended to the families of both men.
