Since' the early months of the war welfare Avork among the. New Zealand Forces has increased in scope, facilities arc now available Avhieli afford the student serviceman the opportunity of continuing his studies and also provide an incentive to others in the forces* to improve their knowledge or take up some useful crafts and hobbies. A great deal has been accomplished, but. at present there is a shortage of certain equipment. In the hope that people whoi have the. articles required may be disposed to give them, the National Patriotic Fund Board is making a public appeal. To assist in the promotion of vocational work, crafts and hobbies an appeal is made for tools (especiallj r carpenters' tools), looms, sewing machines, lathes for wood and metal; also craft books and periodicals, particularly copies of "The Woodworker," Other items required are text books j>resciribed in University College. calendars, and any standard woriks suitable for courses in arts, law, accountancy, science, engineering. architecture, or similar advanced study, and also gramophones and good records. In addition the Patriotic Fund Board is anxious to meet a request at once for 12 Maori mats for Maoris serving in the Air Force in the Pacific. These Maoris have formed themselves into a eoncert. party,, and with the aid of music and instruments supplied through the patriotic organisation, are providing splendid entertainment for troops of the Allied Nations in the Pacific area. Those who are willing to give any of the items mentioned are asked to communicate with their nearest patriotic committee or provincial patriotic council.
