LOCAL PROSECUTIONS UXLI C.HTED BICYCLES A number of cases brought by the. Transport Department against bylaw offenders Avere heard before Mr E. L. AA r alt on, S.M., in the AVliakatane Magistrate's Court last Tuesday. Walter Morgan who rode a bicycle on the footpath without a light on July 13 was lined 5s and costs 12s and 20s and costs 10 s. on tAvo counts. Jack Latham for a similar offence AA'as lined 5s and costs 12s. Straying Stock Taaka M. Ngoungou lor allowing a horse to Avander at large at Poroporo on July 21 Avas lined. 20s and costs 255. Mack Nuku the oAvncr of three cows at large on the Poroporo road was lined £2 and costs 35s (kl. G. G. Clarke for operating a truck Avith a trailer Avilhout avarrant of litness on June 15 Avas lined 20s and costs 32s 6d. A. B. Guptili pleaded guilty to driving a lieaA*y truck at a speed exceeding 25 miles per hour Avas alleged by Mr Carling to have touched 40 1 m.p.li. Fined £2 and. costs 22s 6d. Speeding Truck T. F. Hurndle (Mr B. S. Barry) pleaded not guilty to exceeding the sliced limit, on June 4 last. Inspector Carling said he had folloAA T ed defendant and checked his speed at three, different points when he reached 50 m.p.h. Defendant said that he had. a governor on his truck at the time which only allowed his vehicle' to do 40 m.p.h. He had taken all. reasonable care, at corners and Avas not aware of his excessive speed. Fined £3 and costs 335. L. L. Creamer for operating a light truck at Murupara Avithout a warrant of litness. Avas lined 10s and costs 22s 6d.
