EXIT—KERKBRIDE'S ROAD
WE can say with certainty that no controversy has featured more in these columns over the past four years than that pertaining to Kirkbride's Road, Waimana. For that reason we note with pleasure the finality of the whole question by the only remaining course —legislation. Those who were present will have to admit the fairness and careful thought with which each point was dealt with. The settling of the point in mind however —whether or not any person or local body is permitted to place any obstruction whatsoever across a dedicated roiadway—is the main issue and now that it has been definitely proved that no such right exists we sincerely hope all parties will be satisfied and that this long standing difference together with its less desirable offshoots will come to an end.
Prosecution Fails She stood in the box. a well built middle-aged Maori woman, well em veloped. with the rug which held her latest offspring to her back. She appeared in answer to a case of debt, contracted with Messrs Wallace Supplies. "How many children have you?" asked the prosecuting counsel. "Eight!" came the nonchallant reply. "What age is the eldest?" "Ten years," she replied. The case, collapsed at once the Magistrate, Mr E. L. Walton, awarding expenses against the plaintiff, and remarking that the prosecution was absurd.
The Rising Sun A recruit in Australia was reluctant to take off his singlet during the course of a medical examination. He had a rising .sun tattooed on his chest! Control by Rationing Three kinds of control were being practised in New Zealand —coupon, rationing, unofficial rationing by control of the sources of supply, and. trading rationing undertaken by the commercial community, said Mr J. E. Thomas, Food and. Rationing Controller, when speaking in Auckland recently.
