The Ladies
The toast to the ladies was in the capable hands of Mr R. 1". Smith who gave as fine a speech as! has been our privilege to hear. He mentioned, the part played by 'women. in the nation's war effort and added that it remained for this war to discover the potentialities 1 of women on the: home front., and in the armed forccs. The work of the women of. the British Empire, he said had aroused the admiration of the world. Warrant Officer Peebles replied drawing attention to the fact that the ladies, had also been largely responsible for Hie hall decorations that, night. The final toast of the evening was to Warrant Officer Fay Waugh who was recently married at Morrinsvillc His health was proposed by Jack Stewart and Mervyn Cummings and uproariously honoured. The evening then broke up officially though we have it on good authority that the more enthusiastic continued, the celebrations •well into the wee sma' hours. Items given during the evening were as under: Violin solos, Mr Clarke; Community singing interlude Lieut Stephenson (leader); Mr R. Mollgaard (piano); Solos Mr R. Boswcill "The Fishermen of England"; Steel Guitar solos, Mr Bridgeman; Elocution, Mr Tony Smith, "Monty on Polities" and "I Murdered Him"; Pianoforte Solos, Pte. A. Stark; Solos., Lieut Stephenson, "Legion of the Lost" and "Its a Great Day for the Irish"; Elocution, Mr C. Carpenter "Tommy Atkins" and "Pure and Simple''; Solos W.0.1t Jack Denham "Drinking" and "Garden of. Happiness" and "A Quaint Little Old Fashioned Town"; Mouthorgan Solas, Mr Seebeck.
