FAREWELL COMMITTEE LOCAL EXTHUSI ASM A well attended and enthusiastic meeting of the Awakcri Farewell Committee was held in the schoolhouse Awakeri, on July 21. The election of officers resulted:— Chairman, Mr C. Mac Donald (reelected); Secretary and Treasurer, Mr T. F. Kerr (re-elected); Committee, Mcsdaincs C. Mac Donald, A. Martin, A. Doduntfki, Hepburn Senr., Hepburn Jnr., A. Barr. T. Fowell,, T. Kerr, J. Baty, J. Bouleott and Messrs L. Luxton, .F. Sutton, H. Luke, J. Baty, G. Howard, C. Wickham, C. Duncan, A. Barr. J. Graham, S. Sinclair, T. Bell, T. Fowell and J. Bouleott. I't was resolved that the committee continue its former policy which was as follows:— 1. Farewell all servicemen leaving the area. 2. Welcome home all servicemen returning to the district. 3. Send personal parcels to serviceman of the district at six-month-ly intervals. 3. Assist next-of-kin of prisoners of war to forward parcels to these men. It was decided to continue, giving each man going overseas a money belt and contents and the "Whakatane" wallet. Men coming home arc to be given an amount in cash as formerly. Finally at the end, of the. war when all have returned any sum the committee may have accumulated will be divided among them.
