RELIEVING SUFFERING

ST. JOHN NURSING DIVISION WHAKATANE BRANCH MEETS A most interesting evening was spent recently by members of the ,Wha!kat.ane. St. John Nursing Division when Miss Runciman, Matron of the Whalcatane Hospital, addressed them on the subject of Dietetics. In introducing her subject Miss Runciman spoke of the reason for taking food and its effects on the body; she then described the different types of food and enumerated the most important vitamins and, the food in which they were contained. The speaker gave examples of suitable diets for norma] healthy people and emphasised that by giving a little: thought to this very important matter and by careful cooking it is quite possible for the housekeeper with moderate means to provide for her family, meals containing all the foods necessary for their physical well being. At the end of the lecture members asked questions and discussed the subject generally. The meeting closed, with a vote of thanks to Miss Runciman for most helpful talk.
