PICTURES AT CHRISTMAS
Sir,,—ln a recent issue of the Bea-: con, you published the finding of our Borough Council on the appli- , cation of the local Picture Company, to he open for business on Christ-r mas Day. This letter will donvey to you and to the Council and to those interested, that Mr W. Sullivan, who dissented, does not stand alone. I venture to say that there are a fairly large, number of residents who are of the opinion that he expressed. Had the application: for a picture show on Christmas _ night, come from a responsible body of citizens, then it might have been the business *of the Council to take heed, otherwise t4ie application 'should be no more entertained than would the application of a hotel-, keeper, grocer or draper to open his premises for business on that x day. I am not desirous of entering into a controversy- on this matter, but just standing to a man who is not afraid to give expression to his convictions, and whose convictions incidentally, coincide with my own. Yours etc.. R. W. SCHOFIELD,
