WHAKATANES EFFORT

WHAKATANE subscribed to the Third Liberty Loan just £73,322 a figure which missed its target of £77,792 by just 6 per cent. We had been led to surmise in the earlier part of the campaign that the quota for this district was £75,000 and that this had been comfortably met. The figures considered had however included Waimana which is actually in the Opotiki postal district. The local effort was made uo of 400 subscribers £65,130, Liberty Bonds £5,165 and National Savings £3,027. Whakatane can however pride itself on having achieved 94 per cent, of its target, a not inconsiderable effort.
