WAIMANA NOTES

INSTITUTE MEETING The July meeting of the. WaimanaNukuhou Women's Institute was held last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall, Mrs Hewitt presiding. The: Institute song was •sung, after which. Airs H. Wardlaw read the minutes of the previous meeting. The Drama Circle have decided to put a play 011 at the drama festival to be held in September next at Kdgecumbe. The remits for the. forthcoming conference were -discussed. An appeal lor j'or members of the Armed forces was well responded to. it was decided** to hold the Institute birthday next month, and sister institutes to be invited. A new member, Miss Pluicox, was enrolled. Mrs Hewitt made and gave a very nice apron to be sold at the conference in (Sisborne, to help with the expenses. The roll call was., Short 'readings by members, which were most instructive, educational and humorous, while impromptu speeches j 'were most interesting. A member of the Institute, Mrs S. Clark, is a patient in the Whakatane hospital, and it was decided that a member visit Airs Clark each month and. another to write to her. The competitions were as, follows, all being well entered for: Best single flower, Airs Woo-llield 1, Airs N. Clark 2, Airs Stevenson 3. Double llower, Airs F. Bell 1, Airs AI. King 2, Airs J. Boynton 3. Best vegetable:, Airs Stansbury 1, Airs Hewitt 2, Airs Wylde. 3. Jar of preserved beans, Airs T. AVardlaw 1, Airs Hewitt 2, Airs Wylde. 3.Chocolate cake without cg'gs, Airs I. Savage 1, Airs Wylde. 2, Airs Cooper 3. After the hostesses had served a much enjoyed afternoon tea, Airs Hewitt thanked the judges. Airs Fleming and Miss Phileox, and. the hostesses and the- singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
