THE BOYS BAND
ANNUAL MEETING HELD* - £ ANOTHER YEAR OF PROGRESS^ Mr A. C. Sutherland presided at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Citizens Band (the Boys Band) which took place in the last Wednesday. In his report Mr Sutherland referred to the excellent progress which the hand had made under the capable training of Mr W. Jarre tt. The public of town and district had now accepted the band which could be. regarded as a distinct asset. The town, he said, was under a debt to Mr Jarrett for the time and interest he had taken in training the boys. Besides numerous Borough appearances the band had played at Patriotic functions at Waimana, Taneatua, Awakeri and, Matata. J The election of officers resulted:— Patron: Mr W. Sullivan. M.P. President: Mr A. C. Sutherland.^ Vice-presidents: Messrs A. J. Canning, F. B. Cutler. Committee.: Messrs A. C. Sutherland, A. J. Canning, W. Jarrett, K. Ward, F. Skelton, J. Miles and ». Py ne. Conductor: Mr W. Jarrett. w Hon. Secretary: Mr H. G. Warrett. Hon. Auditor: Mr H. O. Garaway. The reported that though the finances, were fairly sound there had been a great fall— ing off in honorary members, a very • regrettable feature, as the band relied very largely upon these sub- , scriptions and also enjoyed the. interest of those who linked up with ' it. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the committee ladies who had given great assistance at various functions during the year.
