Prohibition Order Breaches Breaches of their existing prohibition orders were preferred against Pita To Paere who was fined 20s and costs. 25s and George Ed. Murray (2 counts) who was lined, .'sos and costs 22s in the Whakatane Magistrate's Court last Tuesday. Late Mrs Ngoungou Owing to pressure on our space we have been forced to hold over the story of the life of the late Mrs Ngoungou who was kidnapped as an infant by Taranaki Maoris and reared as one of them. A recent advertisement by Whakatane's only auctioneering firm featured quite innocently amidst its itemised article's for sale —one enamel baby's bath! The sequel probably never reached the firm concerned but the 'Beacon' suffered a number of mild leg-pulls regarding the true definition of an 'enamel baby.' Miscellaneous Cases At the Whakatane Court sitting last Tuesday the' following cases, were dealt witfe: For assisting ill the commission of. an offence, namely the supplying of liquor to a Maori within the prohibited area, Nepia Mate was- fined 20s and costs 235, Wiremit Waikato 20s and costs 30s, and, Sam Tutua 20s and costs, 235. Another Maori Toby White, who was charged with having cast, offensive matter in a public place was lined £3 and costs 28s. Henry Davies who was found on licensed premises after liou>e was fined 20s and costs 17s.
