ERRANDS OF MERCY

THE work of the Whakatane Branch of the St. John Ambulanc is all too little appreciated by the general public. There are still too many people even in this town who do not realise that the organisation is a voluntary one and that the trips made by the modern and well equipped ambulance vehicle are only made possible by dint of the public interest and enthusiasm of the members of the St. John organisation. The activities of the ambulance for the month of June will serve as some indication of the extent and usefulness of the service which is being performed. l In that period 14 patients were transported to the Whaka-' tane Hospital, the members being assisted in this work by the -Nursing Division, Journeys were made to Gisborne, Auckland and Galatea involving day and night travelling and approximately no less than 1392 miles.
