WAIMANA NEWS

SOLDIERS HONOURED The Waimana Hall was well filled with friends and relatives <at a dance in honour of a number of local men recently. The dance music was voluntarily, and played by. Mr G. Ward-law and Mr A. Bell, Miss M. Wardlaw and Mrs Maperel Mr Dick Boynton capably acted as M.C. The. sum of £15 16s Gd was taken at the'door. Alter supper, Mr J. L. Burnett, on behalf of all present, asked the guests of honour to come forward and accept a wallet, and its; contents with good luck and best wishes and God speed. The. honoured men were Lieut. D. Ingle, L.A.C. R. Woollield,, Pte. Murphy Ipo, and Pte. Wliare Rahuraliu. Mr Burnett in his speech congratulated the. Maori Patriotic Committee, who had handed in £33 3s. (id. The guests of the evening thanked Mr Burnett and all for the splendid evening tended them and the gifts which were, greatly appreciated. The singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem closed the evening. POPULAR FUNCTION AIRMEN HONOURED The dance held in honour of two Waimana airmen last Thursday evening was well patronised,. The guests of the. evening were L.A.C. A. Addison and L.A.C. F. Mitchell. The takings were £1(5 13s, including £1 14,s for a competition held, and £1 donated, from the Maori Patriotic Committee.

Mr Burnett in liis usual most capable manner, presented the guests with a wallet and contents from all present, wishing tliem every sueecss in the future,, the guests most suitably responded thanking all. Mr D. Woolfiejd' acted as M.C. and the music was supplied by Messrs A. and G. Wardlaw and Miss, M. Wardlaw.

The evening was concluded*'-with' Auld Lang Syne and. the National Anthem.
