HISTORIC LINK SEVERED
THE death of Mrs Sarah Caroline Ngou Ngou, which occurred at Poroporo yesterday morning' severed what was possibly the last remaining link with less happier days, when relations between Pakeha and Maori were stained by scenes of violence and bloodshed. Her story is a fascinating and tragic one, which though printed many times has never failed to leave a trace of poignant sadness in its wake. Stolen from her fathers home in Taranaki by a group of outraged Maoris seventy-five years ago t|e little girl was spirited away to the north, where all trace of her was lost by her sorrowing relatives. She was not discovered until some sixty years later when her sister identified her beyond all doubt, at her home in Whakatane. The tale of ther life would- make a remarkable chapter in the history of the early days and we hope to print it in abrieviated outline in our next issue.
