DONATION TO BRITISH RED CROSS At the last meeting of the Whakatane branch of the New Zealand Red; Cross the committee decided, on the motion of Mrs Sullivan, to donate the sum of £200 nett to the British Red CroSs. Mrs Sullivan said that apart from the heavy burden the British Red Cross was bearing in Britain itself, it had a direct appeal for us, in that, the ambulance services in the Middle East were British, and therefore the first assistance that our wounded men received came from this Society. The Government refunded the cost of these, medical services, but there were some debts that money alone could not pay. The motion was seconded by Mrs James and carried unanimously. . j This is the third donation to British Red Cross from the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre (which is formed of the sub-centres of Whakatane. Awakcri, Matata, Te Teko, Edgecumbe and TaneatUa) and others of the snb-centres have already advised their intention of joining in this gill, so no doubt a substantial sum will eventually be. sent from this area.
