RUGBY FOOTBALL

WHAKATANE 12, RUATOKI 3

The malch between liuatoki and Wliakatanc -which was to have been played on Saturday 19th was played last Saturday and resulted in a good win for Whakatane. It was a fast tight contest with, unfortunately', a certain amount of foul play on both sides, resulting finally in Tawcra (RuatokL right wing) being ordered off the field and replaced by Rangi just before half time. The match commenccd at 2.30 p.m. Whakatane playing with the wind, and sun both in their favour.

The two- teams were fairly evenly matched but Ruatoki's additional weight was more then compensated for by the fact that they were able to field only thirteen men, for the first half and also by their lack of proper football attire.

Ruatoki had a fairly . good, allround pack but the only man who showed up in the backs was: TalVau playing on the right wing. Wlia'katane's forwards were a good; match for the Ruatoki pack but lost several tries through erratic passing and fumbling of the ball at the last rrioment. Beaumont (Whakatane left wing) made "several good individual runs, scoring finally after the. only successfully completed passing rush of the game. A few minutes later, Green (front row) w r as able to score for Whakatane again after a good dribbling rush from half way initiated by Back. Hunt (right wing), Hudson (break away) and, Marks (second fiveeighths) also played well. Results were as follows: Whakatane 12 (tries bj r Green, Beaumont, Back and Hunt). Ruatoki 3 (try scored by Rangi). The game was* referced by Mr F. Darvill.
