A BELOVED COMMANDER
"I TAKE it that the wonderful welcome you have extended to me, is an expression of goodwill to the New Zealand Division rather than a personal one," thus in characteristic fashion Lieut. General B. C. Freyberg, V.C- expressed himself at yesterday's tumultous welcome at the civic reception in Auckland. General Freyberg who is in New Zealand on a brief visit has won the hearts of all New Zealanders for his- magnificent leadership and splendid humanitarianism in connection with his care" and interest in his own men. The dash and daring displayed by the New Zealand Division were largely due to the audacious planning and brilliant conception of its, beloved commander. His sudden appearance, after two and a half years absence has sent a thrill of pride and pleasure throughout the country.
