REQUEST BY FARMERS
three remits relating to the price oi wool came before the annual Auckland Provincial Conference of the New Ze;fland Farmers,' Union on May 27. The following Bay of Plenty remit was moved by Mr 11. \\ r . Strugneil and seconde.il by Mr R. W. Dunning was carried: "As wool is *evied to subsidise the manufacture of woollen goods in New Zealand ky 1/4 per cent on all wool in the Dominion, whether for export or local use, the Government should see that all woollen goods are manufactured at pre-war cost, including all the costs during the processes of manufacture, so that manufacture shall he placed on the same' basis a.s the. production of the raw material." On behalf of the Bay of islands, it was agreed that "This conference strongly objects to the retention by the Government of portion of the 15 per J cent which rightly belongs to the Avoolgrowers, and also the wool farmers being the only section of the community to be forced to put money non-transferable war bonds. We also object to the Avoolgrowers. being forced to subsidise the wool industry to the- extent of 11-2 per cent., and regard it as definitely wrong in principle-" A remit from the Waikato read: "That on the close of the present wool-selling season the Government be asked to institute an enquiry into the methods of appraising avool, and that steps should be taken to ensure that growers should re -cive. a price oil the basis of l'-Hid plus J."> per cent." Tile motion Avas carried, after being amended by the deletion of all the words after "wool."
