REMOVAL FROM RUATOKI

YOUNG MAORI GAOLED

A young Maori, Tahae Taipeiti, pleaded guilty before Messrs G. A. Brabant and C. Christensen to unlawfully removing a horse at Ruatoki on 17th of May last.

Sergeant Farrell said that the horse in reality belonged to a Ruatoki soldier now serving overseas. The accused had helped himself and later turned the animal loose at Te Teko where it was finally recovered.

Accused was sentenced to a months imprisonment in the Whakatane gaol.
