Dairy Association Meeting A meeting of the East Coast Dairy Association took place in the County Council Chambers last Saturday and was addressed by Mr A. J. Murdoch, Member of the New Zealand Dairy Board. A full report of 'the proceedings will appear in Friday's issue. Difficulties In returning thanks for his reelection to the chairmanship of the County Council, Mr J. L. Burnett remarked that while appreciating his honour he was nevertheless faced with a real quandary on his farm where the last member of his family was going into the armed forces, leaving on his wife and himself to carry on. He hoped however that he would be .able to see the job through. Taneatua Patriotic Committee Taneatua by reason of the unanimous resignation of members of its original Patriotic Committee last Tuesday is now without an organising executive to follow up the splendid work which has been carried out hitherto. Cows Can't Read The County Council was getting dot under the collar last Tuesday when Cr Hunter complained of Maori-owned stock being allowed to wander at large on Soldiers' Road. "We'll put up a notice and show them that we intend to prosecute," said one member forcibly. Yes,, came the phlegmatic rejoinder from Cr Hunter, "but the cows can't read!"
Edgecumibe Fire Brigade "The Fire Brigade of the Rangltaiki Dairy Company is as good as any in New Zealand," declared Cr Hunter at the last meeting of the Whakatane County Council when applying for the installation of half a dozen hydrants to the newly reticulated water mains in the Edge cumbe township. It Avas pointed out that this new expense was not a question for the council but rather one for the two riding members themselves (Smith and Hunter) to make an allocation from riding funds. The engineer gave an. estimate of the cost at approximately £40 and the two councillors agreed to go into the matter.
