IN SHANGHAI TO-DAY
BOBS AND SHINGLES FOR BEGGARS Hair-cuts were given to 42G beggars during a recent month at the Salvation Army Clmic, Shanghai. Heads of indescribable lilthincss were patiently tended. Now there are no long, matted hair beggars on the Settlement streets. Most of the children have, close cuts and a number of. the women choose bobs or shingles. Some women prefer men's closc crops as 'they arc not parking places for vermin.' One thousand three hundred and twenty-three hot showers, with carbolic soap, also given: 9809 bowls of porridge distributed. Many destitute foreigners, hearing of the blessings of the bathhouse. (states Major Geo. Walker), applied for xjermission to use it themselves.
