HOSPITAL LOAN

MEETING OF BOROUGH RATEPAYERS ADDRESS BY MR McCREADY Fifty ratepayers attended the meeting in the Caledonian Hall last evening called by Mr C. H. McC ready (Hospital Board member) for the purpose of discussing Hospital matters and. the proposed £45,000 loan in particular. Mr C. F. Thomas who presided made it clear that he was; not in acting hi the capacity of his position as president of the Chamh'eflr of Commerce. Mr McCready dealt with the proposed loan fairly extensively, criticising the Board, for its undue haste, to commit th.j ratepayers to such a burden and invited the townspeople to get behind, the protest which had been instigated by the County Council. He dealt at some Iciigth with the growing difficulty experienced by the average farmer in meeting the increasing taxation load and. urged that the people of Whakatane join with the county residents in bringing pressure to bear upon the Goterhment to make all hospitals a direct state liability.
