RABBIT BOARD
PONGAKAWA MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board was held in the Paengaroa Hall on Wednesday, April 28. Present were Mr J; N. Blaymircs (chairman), Messrs R. F. Black. C/'A. Ball, J. T. Reid and C. C. Roberts. Also Mr F. Lefighton (Rotoiti), Mr C. H. Davis (foreman) and Mr A. H. Dukeson (secretary) .
Further correspondence re the boundaries of the Rangitaiki. area was read and a plan of same was submitted to the meeting. Mr Leigliton pointed out that the. area to; be added was considerably greater than the existing district and he questioned whether the same efficient management would be. possible over such a large area. Mr Davis stated that this was, quite workable, and he mentioned that the East Coast Rabbit Board, has the largest district in New Zealand and it is one of the most efficient Boards in New Zealand.
It reported that the Manawahe petition is held up while enquiries are being made of the Whakatane County Council and the Na tive Land Court, Rotorua, re tlio ownership of some 54 native properties in the area.
The foreman reported that, during the month 10.000 acres had been poisoned acres fumigate*}' by himself and three other employees. He proposed to continue with* the same, staff and engage additional casual labour if required. This was approved. Three permits for ammunition were recommended and granted. It was decided to re-advertise the Rabbit District Regulations prohibiting the shooting, trapping or hunting of rabbits in the Pongakawa Rabbit District for a further period of. six months. i
