MORPETH TROPHIES CONTEST

* The second series of. trial fours contests between crews selected from the newly formed junior section of the Whakatane Rowing Club attracted considerable public interest. :

The- winning team G, Dines (stroke), J. Rivett (3), R. King (-2) and Wallace (bow) R. Morpeth (cox) won by half a lefngth firom G. Moore's team after a keenly contested final over the three-quarter mile course. Mr R. Morpeth in presenting the trophies.on behalf of his father who was indisposed, congratulated not merely the winning crew those who had. taken part. Mr J. D. Rivett indicated his intention of. donating a further set of trophies at a later date. Details of the racing were as under:— Ist Heat: Dines,, Rivett, King and Wallace (Morpeth cox) beat N. Jaram, E. Hunt., L. Stewart, and I. Myers (P. Maxwell mx) by |hree lengths. Time 3%mins. K 2nd Heat: G. Moore, J. Maxwell* N. Jaram and E. Tilby (P, Maxwell cox) beat A. Moore, W. Rivett, K. Butler and P. Moore (R. Morpeth cox) by 1 length. Time 3%mins;. Final: Dines, Rivett, King and Wallace (Morpeth cox), beat Moore, Maxwell, Jaram and Tilby by half length. Time 3mins 50se.cs.

lit should be noted that from the junior membership three members, Rivett, Jaram and Maxwell are leaving to join the armed forces in the near future.
