SPORTING SEASON
AMMUNITION PROBLEM QUOTA TO BE INSTITUTED An unusual feature of this year's shooting season opening Mjay Ist is not the shortage' of game birds but the scarcity of ammunition. Shooters in keenness to indulge in their favour- ■ iite s'port are making o feverish inquiries for cartridges sometimes with success throughout the Dominion to supplement supplly saved last year when no season declared. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, stated in a special communication to the 'Beasori' last week, that he had succeed-' ed in obtaining from the Supply Department for distribution for sale on the quota system for various acclimatisation districts; a small quantity of sporting ammunition not -required for military purposes. Arrangements for distribution gives preference to returned soldiers from the present and the great war, the balance being allotted for sale amongst licensed shooters without ammunition.
