BOROUGH TO TAKE ACTION
A "power slhutdown of some duration, occurred 1 at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7. This was" caused) by some workmen on a ; farm belonging 1 to Holdsworth Bros. Western Drain Road cutting a big bluegum tree and falling >it over the main 2200 voltt transmission lines.. No precautions had 1 been taken, to prevent the tree from falling on the lines in fact the tree had* been scarfed in the direction of the lines. Considerable damage wasl caused to the cable andi some chains had to be replaced. Thus a paragraph from the Elecf) trical Engineer's report to the Borough Council meeting last Monday evening. "What would" be the approximate value of the damage?" queried the Mayor. The engineer (Mr F. W. Lysaght) said, lie had not assessed it. as yetbut material loss was about £15f. The loss; in revenue could not be» estimated .ifntil more careful investigation. The Mayor .commented' that lie' did not .see why the Council should be the losers and on his motion ij: was decided to make a claim on the property owners as soon as the full extent ol" the damage was known.
