BOROUGH ARRANGEMENTS

The following tentative programme for the entertainment of Their Excellencies the Governor General, Sir Cyril Newall and Lady Newall upon their first officia visit to Whakatane on Thursday, May 6th, has been duly drawn up by the Borough Council. 11.30 a.m. Arrival of Vice-Regal Party at Commercial Hotel. 11.35 a.m. Met by Mayor and Mayoress andi official' group. . 11.45 a.m. Civic Reception at Pohaturoa Rock. Assembled Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, School Children and general public. R.S.A. will officially parade. Speeches of welcome by His Worship the Mayor and County Chairman'. Reply by Governor General. 12.45 p.m. Luncheon. 1.45 p.m. Visiit by Vice-Regal Party to district Hospital where His Excellency has expressed l a desire to meet all patients. 2.45 p.m. Afternoon tea, when occasion will be afforded for His Excellency and Lady Newall to meet leading citizens in town and' country. 3.55 p.mi Gathering terminates. 4 p.ih'. Their Excellencies depart When the above programme is fully approved by Their Excellencies it is the intention of the Mayor to make a formal request for all business premises to .close for the' duration of the visit.
