REHABILITATION
DISTRICT COMMITTEE'S PERSONNEL
NEED FOR MAORI UEPRESEN-
TATIVE
A decision to represent to the National Rehabilitation Board that in view of the large Maori population in this district provision should be made to include a Maori member on the local Rehabilitation Committee was reached at the last meeting of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce. Mr R. F. Smith, introducing the matter said that Whakatane.'s position was unique in New Zealand and this fact had. probably been overlooked by the National Board in making its appointments. He suggested that a leading Maori resident or say the local Supervisor of the Native Land Scheme would, be suitable members. The chairman (Mr C. F. Thomas) agreed that the request would be a reasonable one and after a brief discussion the suggestion was adopted.
