LABOUR ON FARMS

RELEASE OF ARMY PERSONNEL

TWO METHODS EXPLAINED The Eastern Bay of Plenty Prim?ary Production Council has. been ...advised of the plans to re-organise the. Armj', so as to allow grade two, ..ailso grade one men (other than those in category "A," that is men .grade one aged 20-40 or belonging to the Navy or Air Forces) tt> be released to meet farm vacancies or replace grade one men held on ap-i „peal. The release and direction of the . men wil'l be undertaken by the Manpower Office. There will be two methods of release: One initiated ..by the National Service Department . and the other by Individuals or Soldiers. The National Service will make provision for farmers unable to nominate a reservist, the other case is where the soldier can nom-4 inate his employer or the individual the soldier. The applications to be made on Form N.S. 177 obtainable at the Manpower Office. The Unit Commander or the Man-, power Officer may decline release ..under special circumstances, but provision is made to refer the case -to the Armed Forces Appeal Board. The National Service have compiled. a pool of over 2000 cx-farm -workers, the names of these men have been sent to Manpower Offi-i cers and are available for farm work. The Council would advise farmers to survey their labour require-, ments as it is desirable that full use should now be made of. the raci ..available. If left till the new season it ma}' be found that release is -difficult, because all experienced men will have been discharged.
