LATE W. O. II I. RIINI

PADRE'S LETTER OF SYMPATHY

A source of deep comfort to the family of the late W. O. It I. Riini of Poroporo, who Avas killed in action last year is a letter received from the Maori Battalion's Catholic Padre, Father Henley, in which he gives some indication of the high regard in which Warrant Officer Riini Avas held. The letter reads:—■ A few lines of consolation to you in the loss of your son W.O. IT I li. Riini who died of wounds 27/10 42. His Maori comrades were fond of him for his. many good qualities, his courtesy and especially his courage in action. I myself held him in very high esteem for the good example he. always .set. IS always found in him that perfect spirit of a dignified soldier, one always alive to his responsibilities, the realities and the dangers of war. To you of his family I extend my sincere sympathy. Be; assured I will always remember him where remembrance is best. " Beseeching your kind prayers sometimes for our continued safety. James F. Henley, Padre.
